This is our very first look at the debut game from Nagoshi Studio, a studio established by NetEase’s own Toshihiro Nagoshi, who left his previous studio, Ryu Ga Gotoku, back in 2021. This game is called Gang of Dragon, and boy, is it a Yakuza game!
The trailer begins with a suited man walking around Japan when he is knifed by a mysterious individual. The trailer quickly cuts to the same-suited, unknifed, man sitting at a bar when a group of Yakuza enter, calling for a pay-off. This is quickly interrupted when his phone rings, he briefly talks, then has a full-blown fist fight with the Yakuza, who are all brandishing weapons, but he still manages to come out on top before continuing on his way, revealing a commonly-known sign that marks the real-life location of the fictional setting of the Yakuza games, Kamurocho, which is based on the real location, Kabukichō.
The logo flickers, Gang of Dragon, briefly with the first letter of each word spelling out GOD. Sorry, no release date or platforms have been set.
This is the first game from Nagoshi Studio, which Toshihiro Nagoshi set up in 2022, following his departure from Ryu Ga Gotoku in 2021. It is because of this, and this reason alone, that we know that this cannot be a Yakuza/Like a Dragon game, despite it lookingalarmingly similar, down to location, yes, okay, here, yes, yes, yes, of course, yes, it’s obvious that it cannot be, but we’ll see how Nagoshi manages the tightrope of developing a different game when he has, essentially, been developing the Yakuza franchises for so long.
