OnePlus has been present in the market in the tablets category. However, the last two launches – the OnePlus Pad 2 and the OnePlus Pad 3 – have been placed in the flagship segment, while the OnePlus Pad Go is the only offering from the brand in the budget segment since 2023. However, this is soon going to change. The OnePlus Pad Go 2 is scheduled to be launched in India on December 17th and is expected to offer upgrades over the previous model.
One of us had some time with the OnePlus Pad Go 2 before its launch, and we can share some first impressions.
OnePlus Pad Go 2 First Impressions: Design, Display, and Battery
The OnePlus Pad Go 2 upgrades from the design of the OnePlus Pad 3 and also includes some improvements that give it a modern and premium look. The single camera deco, which is fixed centrally and was also noticed in the OnePlus Pad Go, now sits in the corner, just like the latest designs. But the good thing is that it doesn’t affect the balance of the device and neither does it make it look unbalanced, though it looks a bit unnoticeable. The OnePlus logo is positioned at the rear.
Although the final weight and thickness of this device have not been announced by OnePlus, it seems quite robust andbalanced for a tablet featuring a 12-inch display.
The Pad Go 2 will come with two color variants in the Indian market – Shadow Black and Lavender Drift. We received the Shadow Black variant, which looks quite neat and unobtrusive. But as with all such matte black finishes, it shows fingerprints and dust quite prominently if we may say so. The soft-touch finish ensures good grip and is quite comfortable to hold during extensive use sessions for web surfing, reading, or watching videos in landscape mode.
In terms of display, the front of the upcoming OnePlus tablet comes with a 12.1-inch 2.8K display that has Dolby Vision support, a pixels per inch of 284, and Dolby Vision certification. During our initial experience with the OnePlus Pad Go 2, the display seemed lively and had sharp text and colors. The display also comes with TUV Rheinland Smart Care 4.0 certification, which should benefit eye protection during prolonged usage. The display has a peak brightness of 900 nits, and in initial impressions, it seems to have good readability in outdoors.
We’ll reserve more detailed analysis on the viewing experience, color accuracy, streaming, and responsiveness of the stylus for our review. The OnePlus Pad Go 2 is set to feature a battery capacity of 10,050mAh and will support Wired SUPERVOOC charging at a speed of 33W. The device will support up to 15 hours of video playback, up to 53 hours of listening to music, and up to 60 hours of standby time. There will be support for Reverse Wired Charging. In terms of first usage, it appears to be an upgrade offering satisfaction to those who are looking to enjoy the larger display without entering the premium segment. At least on paper, it appears to be more versatile than its first-generation version.
