iPhone 14 Plus: Big Display, Long Battery, Worth Buying in 2025?

iPhone 14 Plus

The iPhone 14 Plus is Apple‘s bigger “non-Pro” model of the iPhone 14 series (launched October 2022). It falls between the standard iPhone 14 and the Pro/Pro Max. The “Plus” model offers you a large screen and longer battery life, lots of the same essential features (chipset, cameras) as the iPhone 14, but not the ProMotion screen, telephoto camera, or some of the more premium bells and whistles.

Intended Users

Its intended user is one who desires:

  • A big, quality display (6.7″) for video, reading, etc.
  • Good battery life (more than the usual 14)
  • The software, build, and reliability of an iPhone but without (or willingness to pay extra for) Pro offerings such as high refresh rate, additional camera zoom, etc.

Specifications

Following are its key specs: display, internals, cameras, battery, etc.

Display
6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED; resolution 2778 × 1284 (~458 ppi). HDR and Dolby Vision are supported. Peak brightness ~1200 nits HDR, ~800 nits typical. Protective Ceramic Shield front.

Design/Build
Aluminum frame, glass front & back. IP68 rated (dust & water resistance up to 6m for 30 minutes). Weighs about 203 grams; thickness 7.8 mm.

Chipset / Performance
Powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic chip (5 nm process)—the same base chip as in the iPhone 14, iPhone 13 Pro, etc. It’s powerful, highly efficient, and provides good performance for everything. RAM is roughly 6 GB. Storage choices are 128 / 256 / 512 GB. No microSD card.

Cameras
Rear: dual-camera system—12 MP main wide (f/1.5, sensor-shift OIS) + 12 MP ultrawide (f/2.4) lens. Front: 12 MP wide selfie camera. Video: supports 4K up to 60 fps, HDR, cinematic mode, etc.

Battery & Charging
~ 4,300-4,325 mAh battery. Apple says it provides the greatest battery life yet in a non-Pro iPhone. Real-world performance is extremely good. Wired charging is fairly limited (~20W), wireless (MagSafe and Qi) slower.

Software & Features
Comes with iOS 16 (and updates thereafter). Include Face ID, Emergency SOS, Crash Detection, etc. Connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.x, Ultra Wideband (UWB), etc.

Other
Colors: Midnight, Blue, Starlight, Purple, (PRODUCT)RED, and Yellow. The screen-to-body ratio is large (≈ 87-88%).

iPhone 14 Plus

What It Does Very Well

Battery Life
This is probably the largest strong point of the 14 Plus. It provides amongst the longest battery lifetimes for any iPhone that isn’t a Pro Max. In most real-world tests, people get 2 days of “normal use” or more. On ongoing internet browsing over 5G, it lasted almost 11h57m in Tom’s Guide testing, which is great for its class.

Screen Size & Visuals
The 6.7-inch OLED is excellent for video, reading, and multitasking. Color reproduction, contrast, and brightness are all very good. Although the refresh rate is 60 Hz (not hyper smooth like 120 Hz), for non-gamers or general users it’s pretty good, especially considering the overall fluid iOS experience.

Build Quality & Reliability
Apple‘s build materials (Ceramic Shield, IP68 rating) combined with robust software support (security & OS updates) combine to make this a phone that most would assume will be useful for years to come.

Camera Quality in Everyday Use
The primary camera (wide lens) with sensor-shift OIS is excellent during the day and decent in low light. Ultra-wide comes in handy when taking group or landscape photography. Video capture is robust, with Apple‘s legendary processing efficiency. For most users (non-pros), this arrangement will be more than sufficient.

Ecosystem + FeaturesAlso, As with every iPhone, you have access to Apple‘s ecosystem: services, updates, resale value, and accessories (MagSafe, etc.). Also safety features like Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite in certain areas are welcome to have.

Limitations & Trade-Offs

60 Hz Display
Though the panel is excellent, the refresh rate tops out at 60 Hz. That means scrolling, animations, and rapid motion aren’t as silky as on 90 Hz or 120 Hz screens (which numerous competitors and Apple‘s own Pro-grade models possess).

Charging Speeds
Wired charging is capped (~20W), slower than most Android phones that now have 30-65W or even 100W+ charging. Wireless charging is also limited. You will have to wait ~2 hours for full charge depending on charger.

No Telephoto / No Pro Camera Features
You don’t have the additional lenses (telephoto, greater zoom) Pro/Pro Max models offer. Also, some features associated with Pro display (always-on dizoom) that theProMotion) (~203 g)ent.

Size & Handling (~203 g) As a big phone (~6.7″), it can be inconvenient in one hand, pocketed, etc. Weight (~203g) also makes it pretty heavy.

Cost vs. What You Get
Since certain specs are shared with lower-end models, the “Plus” premium is mostly for screen real estate and battery. Some buyers feel that the price is steep compared to what you sacrifice vs. the Pro.

Camera Problem in Some Devices
There has been an Apple service program to repair rear camera preview problems in some iPhone 14 Plus devices made between certain dates.

Real-World Experience

Battery: Most users say that under average use (social media, video, some photography), the phone has no problem lasting a day and into the second day. Some users achieved ~2 days, some even ~3 days with lighter use. On video streaming tests, it lasts ~20+ hours.

Outdoor display: Bright enough to be visible in sunlight, although maybe not as much as a few competitors.

Performance: Extremely smooth. The A15 is a decent chip that can deal with everything from simple tasks to more demanding software.

Camera: Great in good light; in low light, suffers slightly. Lack of telephoto lens provides less freedom for zoom. Ultrawide has some edge softness or distortion.

Ergonomics: Large size is apparent. Some struggle to use with one hand, or that it’s awkward in some pockets.

Comparison: What Sets iPhone 14 Plus Apart vs Competition

Vs iPhone 14 (base)
The Plus provides you with a bigger screen and an improved battery. But you sacrifice any pro camera capabilities.

Vs. iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max
Pro models provide you with improved camera systems, a ProMotion 120 Hz screen, and an always-on screen. But Plus provides you with much of the fundamental experience at a lower price than Pro Max.

Vs. Android competition
Numerous Android handsets in comparable price segments can have 120 Hz or higher refresh rate displays, quicker charging, and occasionally more camera modules. However, battery and software update lifespan, ecosystem, and resale value are Apple‘s strong points.

Price & Value

In India, the iPhone 14 Plus (128GB) costs approximately ₹ 69,900 (may vary with offers, storage, etc.). Globally, it sacrifices some features but holds on to durability, software updates, etc., which could be worth the price for many.

iPhone 14 Plus

Who Is This Phone Suitable For?

The iPhone 14 Plus will most appeal to:

  • Those who prefer great battery life and big screen for watching media, reading, videos, etc.
  • Individuals who like Apple‘s ecosystem, appreciate software updates, build quality, and resale.
  • Users are not that fussed about “max specs” (120 Hz, more camera lenses) or super-fast charging. ecosystem appreciate

It’s less suitable for those who:

  • Want silky-smooth motion (120 Hz refresh rate).
  • Need super-fast charging.
  • Rely heavily on zoom/telephoto camera features.
  • Prefer smaller, lighter phones.

Potential Issues / What to Inspect Prior to Purchase

  • Ensure the unit does not have the identified camera preview flaw.
  • Charger not included in box; you need to purchase it separately.
  • Since the screen is 60 Hz, animations will not be as smooth as on Pro phones or Androids with higher refresh rates.

Final Thoughts: Is iPhone 14 Plus Worth It?

The iPhone 14 Plus is a good bet for someone who values battery life, display size, ruggedness, and the solidity of the iOS platform. If these are top considerations, most of the compromises are tolerable. It is almost a 120 Hz ship-level phone without Pro pricing.

If you are a user whose usage sees a lot of gaming, zoom photography, or need for smoother motion, then maybe a Pro model or a flagship Android would suit your priorities better.
