FIFA has extended its partnership through the release of a game called FIFA Super Soccer, which was developed by Roblox.
It has been developed in partnership with the metaverse media company, Gamefam, and Super League Soccer is now rebranded as FIFA Super Soccer to be FIFA’s Roblox experience.
FIFA said this will help it better position itself in the gaming space to connect with the next generation of football fans across the world. Gamefam said the game has an average 9.5m monthly actives, with 1.5m daily play engagements.
The Roblox game will enable players to compete through national teams and clubs, as well as events related to international leagues. The game will enable players to win FIFA and World Cup items related to avatars.
A wider movement
This rebranding comes on the heels of FIFA’s decision to venture further into the gaming space through a partnership deal announced recently with Netflix for a new football simulation game to be released before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Roblox has proved that it has the huge potential for bringing people together and enhancing football culture,” said FIFA gaming and esports director Christian Volk. “By collaborating with Gamefam, we can create a real football community on the platform.
‘This partnership fits into our overall expansion into the gaming industry, helps us to deliver new and authentic experiences for our fans, and provides additional opportunities for partners to get involved as we look ahead to the FIFA World Cup in 2026.”
Roblox’s senior director of global strategic partnerships, Lisa Willett, also added: “Our relationship with FIFA and the launch of ‘FIFA Super Soccer’ further support the emerging trend of engagement opportunities for leagues and brands with young audiences in native, always-on environments.”
She further added: “Fans congregate in this space during the off-season, counting down to big events and celebrating triumphs and more as a way to be connected to the culture that revolves around their teams and athletes. It’s an honour to be able to expand the world that exists there.”
FIFA used to have an agreement with EA on making football games for 30 years. This came to an end in May 2022 after the publisher failed to pay higher costs for branding rights. EA currently uses EA Sports FC for making football games.
